Surah Al-Fatihah is the opening chapter of the Qur’an and is recited in every unit of prayer. It is known as “The Opening” because it opens the Qur’an and opens our conversation with Allah ﷻ.
This Surah teaches children who Allah is and how we speak to Him:
- Allah is Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem – The Most Merciful, The Especially Merciful.That means His mercy is always there. He loves to forgive.He cares for us even when we make mistakes.
- He is Rabb of all worlds – Our Creator, Provider, and Caretaker. He made the sky, the animals, our families, and even our hearts. He gives us food, safety, and blessings every single day. Nothing we have is by accident, it is all from Him
- He is Master of the Day of Judgment – We are responsible for our choices.Our kindness matters. Our honesty matters. Allah sees what we do.
- We worship only Him – And we ask Him alone for help.
- We ask for guidance – To stay on the straight path. We are asking Allah to help us live the right way — the way that pleases Him.
- We ask to be like those Allah loves – the prophets, the truthful, the patient, the grateful. We want to walk the path of those who chose faith, kindness, and obedience.
- We ask to be not like those Allah is upset with – There are people who knew the truth but chose to ignore it, or became careless and drifted away from guidance. We are asking Allah to protect us from becoming like that. We are asking Him to keep our hearts soft, help us stay sincere, and keep us close to what is right.

This powerful du’a teaches children that every day we ask Allah to help us make good choices, stay kind, and follow what is right.
A great point for children: Surah Al-Fatihah is our daily conversation with Allah. We praise Him, we thank Him, and we ask Him for guidance.
